An emotionally-darker more well-rounded edit of the classic movie Back to the Future. The idea being if early-Spielberg had directed the movie from his eager 1970s state of mind (though there’s evidence he shadow-directed this movie).
Highlights include:
-The 50s scenes are in b&w. As the trick that makes this movie work soooooo well is Marty traveling back in time not to the 1950s so much as he was traveling to a 1950s Hollywood movie if you look carefully enough, it only made sense to make that segment black and white.
-More Biff. Using footage from BTTF 2 where it makes sense to double down as his character. Which in the tragic age of Trump makes more sense.
-Tweaks and improvements everywhere, including VFX and production value. With occasional shots of nature, so it’s feels a bit less like a set, and to make the overall movie feels like a more expensive better produced movie overall. Some chase & action scenes are a little more intricate. Pacing matches a 1950s movie a bit better.
-Much darker Doc Brown. He gets a few gun shots off now on the Libyans, he’s a bit more like Rick Sanchez from “Rick & Morty”. The ending though darker and sadder in my edit actually makes more sense logically, and don’t miss that tv clip from earlier about “cloning”. ;) He is a mad scientist you know.
-In many ways a deluxe cut of the original film that feels more honest, emotionally-elegant, and darker in that early-Spielberg vibe. Plus, I always wanted to see the Libyan’s minivan explode, to give this movie a bit of that Death Star moment. Enjoy!
