GRAND THEFT AUTO THE F******* MOVIE!

Okay, on a serious note. I studied this recent phenomena of video games movies. Will they be the thing that replaces serialized comic book movies?

The best of the bunch was the Sonic movie. Basically a throwback to a good 90s Jim Carrey movie, with Sonic elements framed around it. That's why it was successful. It was an attempt at a good movie first, and the video game stuff second. So I thought this would be a good approach as a solution for an ongoing fan edit I was doing as PART TWO of my INGMAR BERGMAN Seventh seal Death of The New Hollywood by way of Populism cycle.

In any case, any good GTA movie has to do the 80s stuff perfect IMAO. But more important, needs to understand the spirit of those games. Forget the missions, fun as they are. The real reason why we play the game is go postal in an antisocial safeplace/sandbox. To let your inner psycho out and see what you can get away with. So my GTA movie made that theme first and foremost. It helped me with a fan edit that at times felt too derivative of the Terminator movies. But reframed as a cheesy video game adaptation played straight, I was able to make it work for my purposes.

Fun highlights come the way of Easter eggs. Look for the iconic 'girl' with sunglasses. A trip to the inner city and a shootout with gangster wannabes. The corny ways that famed GTA cities will pop up here as cameos of sorts. Lots of firepower, different weapons, and other small nods to the game. But first and foremost, a decent movie at its center.
